Roman Road - East Kent

Roman roads are dispersed across the country and the majority are still used as modern highways obliterating their past. In certain cases they have survived as minor tracks across the country side.
Ghost Connections have been scouring the countryside to find one that is quiet enough to spend some time at and found one within Kent. The tracing of a near 10 mile stretch of road located a small section that deviates from the modern highway and over a small stretch is visible in its original form of small knapped flints driven into the natural surface. From this small section the road then becomes a track through some woods bordering an ancient settlement site in a field.

Investigation:

The site here was considered worthy of an investigation after eventually locating an accessable site of such antiquity. We chose this as it fullfilled two sought after locations. Many stories abound across the country regarding Roman roads and also ancient crossroads where superstition suggests suicides and criminals were buried and many hauntings take place. Ghost Connections found this location to combine the two and found it as an ancient track crosses the Roman road here.

Initially having found the site on a previous recce the team first decided to explore the area more fully including the ancient track from the settlement site across the Roman road and into the woods.

After identifying that a light was present shining into the field then the team located this and found it to be a house so retraced our route into the woods.

The ancient track here has a natural embankment on one side which appears to be man made but a cross section observable at one end indicates that it is entirely natural.

Walking the track we all heard voices nearby and stopped to wait for the source to walk by. The voices got closer but never went past and no persons were seen.

The whole area particularly further towards the trackway has a certain air about it and will be subject to further investigation.

On this occasion, however, the weather defeated us being cold and slightly raining from arrival after an hour or so became torential and we got drenched. Rain is not normally a barrier for us but on this occasion we had to give in and move on.

      Results
Whilst not much was achieved due to the weather the team have resolved to visit this location again.

During our stay a certain amount of other information was forthcoming to the team of a clairvoyant nature. As Ghost Connections conducts scientifically based investigations we do not publish such observations, however, this information is held on a separate database and may prove interesting when compared to other peoples experiences. Should you wish to discuss this information please email us

Camcorder footage, still photographs and voice recorders were later examined and nothing of note was found.

      Conclusions
A fantastically historic site where so many periods of ancient history are visible side by side. Location preserved to prevent vandalism.
