Session three – Fake photography
The pictures Ian took certainly proved that the flash could be reflected elsewhere off an oil painting
as can be seen on the far wall of his picture when looking up the stairs, also more obviously when in the vicinity of a mirror. The
original photograph was taken on some stairs that were heavily adorned with paintings and pictures that may have caused such an effect.
Plus the use of old flash powder and a longer exposure, as was used at the time, would certainly have contributed to the effect.
Dave's use of steam also proved of interest as another method of recreating the original image, however, despite a number of attempts
using varying methods it was not possible create a dense enough cloud of steam that was illuminated sufficiently to cause a substantial
fake “apparition”. We feel the former provides a more credible explanation for the Raynam Hall ghost.
